What happens during a Surgical Lip Lift?
A “bullhorn” incision is made underneath the nose, where a small amount of skin is removed, and the upper lip is lifted, reducing the space between the lip and the nose. The procedure is done under local anaesthetic and takes around an hour to complete.
It is normal for the area to be swollen following the procedure and for some mild discomfort to be felt. Other side effects can include bruising, scarring and bleeding (although these are rare). Your practitioner will advise you on appropriate aftercare and preparation.

How long does recovery take after a surgical lip lift?
Most patients recover within 7–10 days. Swelling and bruising are common but gradually subside during this period. You’ll be provided with detailed aftercare instructions to ensure the best recovery.
Does a surgical lip lift procedure hurt?
The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia, so you won’t feel any pain during the surgery. Afterward, mild discomfort, swelling, or bruising may occur, but this can be managed with pain relief as advised by Miss Natasha Berridge.
Will there be visible scarring from a surgical lip lift?
The incision is made under the nose, in a discreet location, making scarring minimal and often barely noticeable once healed. Following aftercare instructions can help minimise scarring further.
When will I see the final results from a surgical lip lift?
While you’ll notice an immediate improvement in lip shape and position, the final results will be visible within a few months, once any swelling completely subsides.
How soon can I return to normal activities after a surgical lip lift?
Most patients can return to light activities within 1–2 weeks, although it’s advisable to avoid strenuous exercise and heavy lifting for about 4 weeks to ensure proper healing.
