Looking for relief right now? Here are five at-home treatments

At The Eye Retreat at The Door, we offer advanced treatments that deliver lasting relief from dry eyes. However, if you're looking for temporary relief right now, here are our top five tips:

1) Use Warm Compresses
  • Applying a warm, damp cloth over your closed eyes can help loosen any clogged oils in your tear glands, improving tear quality and providing relief.
2) Stay Hydrated
  • Drinking enough water (around 8 glasses a day) helps keep your body hydrated, which can improve tear production and reduce dryness.
3) Apply Artificial Tears or Lubricating Eye Drops
  • Over-the-counter lubricating eye drops can provide immediate moisture. Opt for preservative-free drops if you’re using them frequently.
4) Reduce Screen Time and Take Breaks
  • Staring at screens reduces blinking, which can lead to dryness. Use the "20-20-20 rule" — every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds to allow your eyes to rest.
5) Adjust Your Environment
  • Use a humidifier to increase moisture in the air, especially during winter when indoor heating can cause dryness.
  • Avoid direct exposure to fans, air conditioners, or heaters blowing directly at your face.

FAQs

How do these treatments work to help with dry eyes?

Lumecca and Forma both use advanced technology to improve the health of your eyes and the skin around them, providing relief from dry eyes.

Lumecca uses light pulses to target the oil glands in your eyelids. These glands are responsible for producing the oil that keeps your tears from drying out too quickly. The light helps open up clogged glands, reduces inflammation, and boosts the quality of your tears.

Forma uses gentle heat to stimulate collagen production in the skin around your eyes. This helps the glands function better and reduces puffiness or irritation, leading to healthier tear production and less dryness.

Both treatments work together to improve the overall health of your eyes and eyelid area, giving you longer-lasting relief from dry eye symptoms.

How long does a typical treatment session take?

Lumecca treatments typically take around 20-30 minutes, while Forma treatments usually last about 30-45 minutes.

Is there any downtime after these treatments?

Both Lumecca and Forma are non-invasive, and there is no significant downtime. Some patients may experience mild redness or warmth after the treatment, but it typically resolves within a few hours. You can return to normal activities right away.

How many treatments will I need to see results?

For optimal results, most patients require a series of 3-5 treatments, spaced about 2-4 weeks apart.

Are the treatments painful?

Both treatments are generally comfortable. During Lumecca, you may feel a gentle snapping sensation from the light pulses, while Forma provides a warm, soothing feeling as it heats the skin. Patients typically find both treatments to be well-tolerated.

Are these treatments safe for everyone?

Lumecca and Forma are safe for most individuals, but a consultation with our specialist is necessary to determine if they’re right for you. If you have certain skin conditions, eye diseases, or are pregnant, you may not be a candidate for these treatments. We will evaluate your unique needs to ensure safety and effectiveness.
