What is Forma-I, and how does it work?

Forma-I is a treatment designed to help people with dry eyes, a condition where the eyes feel uncomfortable, gritty, or irritated due to insufficient tear production or rapid evaporation of tears. The treatment targets a common cause of dry eyes: blocked meibomian glands. These glands, located in your eyelids, produce oils that prevent tears from evaporating too quickly.

Forma-I uses a safe and effective radiofrequency (RF) technology to treat dry eyes. The device applies gentle heat and pulses to your eyelids, creating a very precise circuit of RF energy. This energy generates heat in the deeper layers of the skin, specifically the dermis, where the meibomian glands are located. The heat melts the "waxy yellow" meibum that blocks the glands, allowing them to function properly again. This process not only helps to restore normal gland function but also stimulates collagen production, a process known as neo-collagenesis, which can rejuvenate the glands and improve tear quality.

The treatment is noninvasive, painless, and requires no downtime, making it convenient for people with busy schedules. Many patients experience relief after just a few sessions. After each treatment, a meibomian gland expression procedure is performed. This procedure involves gently applying pressure to the eyelids to express oils from the glands, further clearing any remaining blockages and improving oil flow.

By combining heat therapy with meibomian gland expression, Forma-I helps reduce the symptoms of dry eyes, including dryness, irritation, and redness, while providing the added benefit of reducing fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes. The RF energy also stimulates collagen and elastin production, which leads to improved skin elasticity and texture.

What does the treatment feel like?

During the treatment, you will feel a warm, gentle sensation on the surface of your eyes. While it’s generally comfortable, some people might feel mild pressure or slight warmth.

How long does one session take?

Forma-i takes around 20 mins per session. A meibomian gland expression procedure is done after each treatment.

What can I expect after this treatment?

Some people notice immediate improvement, while others may see gradual benefits over a few days. There's usually no downtime, so you can go back to your regular activities right away. In some cases, you might experience mild warmth or a slight sensitivity in the eyes, but this typically goes away soon after the treatment.

How many treatments will I need to see results?

Most people typically need around four Forma-I treatments to see noticeable results. These treatments are usually spaced about a week apart. However, the exact number of sessions needed can vary depending on the severity of your dry eye condition and how your eyes respond to the treatment. We will prescribe a bespoke treatment plan for each patient.
